As we bid farewell to an eventful year, at Diversity Abroad we're taking a moment to reflect on the strides made in advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) in global education throughout 2023. From dynamic events to impactful thought leadership and transformative professional development, our collective journey in 2023 has been defined by innovation, collaboration, and a resounding commitment to driving positive change.
Convening for Global Inclusion
The cornerstone of our efforts in 2023 was the
Global Inclusion Conference, the
Global Student Leadership Summit, and the
Inclusive Learning Institute. These gatherings served as vital platforms for fostering dialogue, sharing good practices, and cultivating a sense of community among global education practitioners. Through engaging plenary sessions, interactive workshops, and networking opportunities, these events reinforced the importance of DEIB in ensuring our field supports the success of all students who engage in our programs and that our sector is one where all professionals can thrive.
Thought Leadership: Shaping the Discourse
Throughout 2023, Diversity Abroad remained at the forefront of thought leadership, delving into pivotal DEIB topics in global education. From tackling the implications of
DEI bans and
changes to affirmative action on international education to our
student belonging and experience survey, our initiatives sought to translate the implications of DEIB trends, policies, and emerging topics into actionable insights. By curating event content - such as the popular
Think Forward Summit and
Orienting European On-site Staff to the US DEI Climate webinar - that was not only timely but also deeply relevant, we aimed to spark meaningful conversations and inspire transformative change within the global learning community.
Community: Building Connections and Collaboration
Central to our mission is providing opportunities to build community. There is something special about being able to bring people from across the world with shared interests together. Through our
Communities of Practice,
Community Discussions, and
professional certificate program, we have developed unique venues where practitioners can connect with others with whom they may otherwise note have the opportunity to meet. Community building continues to play an important role in the success of Diversity Abroad, and 2023 has offered a multitude of opportunities to see our community in action.
