The DAAD is the world’s largest funding organisation for the international exchange of students and researchers. Since it was founded in 1925, around 2.6 million scholars in Germany and abroad have received DAAD funding. It is a registered association and its members are German institutions of higher education and student bodies. Its activities go far beyond simply awarding grants and scholarships. Enterprise Ireland is responsible for the promotion of Irish Higher Education Institutions overseas. Ireland welcomes international students from across the globe for full degree, postgraduate, and study abroad programs, and in 2019 was the 6th most popular study abroad destination for US students, according to the Open Doors Report.

London Metropolitan University is one of the most socially and culturally diverse institutions in the world. Built on a strong heritage of widening access, the institution was originally founded in 1848 to deliver evening classes to improve the ‘moral, intellectual and spiritual condition of young men in the metropolis’. Through the many incarnations of the institution since then, this ethos has remained and today a total of 96% of London Metropolitan University’s student population is from at least one group that is underrepresented in Higher Education.
