Spring 2024 Leveraging Data to Increase Access & Inclusion in Global Programming

The Spring 2024 edition of The Global Impact Exchange, Diversity Abroad explores a range of topics and questions within this broader theme.

As the field of international education continues to evolve, there is a growing emphasis on increasing access to global programs and creating inclusive and culturally relevant support structures. To achieve these goals, it is crucial to leverage data effectively. This edition seeks to explore how data can inform practice and how offices and organizations are assessing and enhancing their diversity and inclusion practices using data-driven approaches. Articles focus on a wide range of topics related to leveraging data for increased access and inclusion in global programming that include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Data-Driven Decision Making: How are educational institutions and organizations using data to make informed decisions related to access and inclusion in global programming? Share case studies and best practices.
  • Assessing Diversity and Inclusion: What methodologies and tools are being employed to assess current diversity and inclusion practices in international education? How can data be used for benchmarking and assessment?
  • Measuring Impact: How can data be used to measure the impact of diversity and inclusion initiatives in international education?
  • Implementing Policy Changes: Present strategies for translating data insights into concrete policy changes and practices that promote diversity and inclusion in global programming.

Call for Article Submissions

The Global Impact Exchange: A Publication of Diversity Abroad solicits article proposal submissions three times a year based on a contemporary thematic topic. Article submissions can take various forms, including: scholarly articles, opinion pieces, book reviews, student stories, personal narratives, and research findings, among others. We encourage contributors who have experience working with diverse and underrepresented groups in global education including racial and ethnic minorities, LGBTQI+, persons with disabilities, religious diversity, high financial need, community college students, and first generation college students. Selected articles will be shared widely through Diversity Abroad communication platforms.

Empowering Inclusive Virtual Learning: Strategies and Practices for Professional Development in Online Global Education

As the landscape of education evolves, virtual exchange and online global learning have become integral components of making global learning more accessible. To ensure the success of these initiatives, it is imperative that educators, staff, and others who administer or facilitate virtual exchanges and online global learning opportunities engage in continuous professional development, receive targeted training, and access relevant resources. The Summer 2024 Global Impact Exchange is open to submissions of abstracts that explore the essential aspects of professional development, training, and resources necessary for fostering inclusive and accessible learning environments for diverse learners participating in online global programs and virtual exchange programs.


Themes for article abstracts may include, but are not limited to:


Inclusive Pedagogies: Strategies for designing virtual exchange programs that accommodate diverse learning styles, cultural backgrounds, and abilities.


Technology Integration: Exploring innovative tools and methodologies to enhance accessibility and inclusivity in a virtual environment.


Cultural Competence: Addressing the importance of cultural competence in the professional development of faculty and staff engaged in virtual exchange and online global programming.


Assessment and Evaluation: Developing effective assessment methods to gauge the impact of virtual exchange programs on diverse learners.


The Summer 2024 Edition of the Global Impact Exchange is a continuation of Diversity Abroad’s partnership with the Stevens Initiative to emphasize strategies, practices, and research on virtual exchange and online global learning programs. The Spring 2023 Global Impact Exchange focused on Virtual Exchange as a Tool to Advance Equity and Inclusion and was the first installment of the partnership.


Article submission may focus on:

  • Student support & Services
  • Allyship
  • Safety and Security
  • Professional Development
  • Collaboration
  • Multicultural Student/Youth Experiences
  • Promising Practices/Case Studies
  • Personal and Professional Narratives from Global Educators
  • Ethical Engagement
  • General Criteria

    1. Article proposals should be approximately 100-200 words and include the title, brief synopsis of the article, author(s), and
    2. Please upload submission as a Microsoft Word document, double-spaced in 12-point font.
    3. Citations should follow the style guidelines of APA 6th. References should be noted in the body (author, date) and listed as a reference at the end (please refrain from using footnotes).

    • Can have multiple authors
    • 750 - 1200 words
    • Should draw upon research and thought leadership to build the narrative

    Opinion Pieces

    • No more than 750 words

    Book Reviews/Overview

    • No more than 750 words
    • Book reviews/overviews will highlight key areas of significance to global education in the context of access, inclusion, diversity, and equity.
    The main task of the Editorial Advisory Board is to review article submissions for the Diversity Abroad Quarterly publication. While not a peer-reviewed academic journal, the Diversity Abroad Quarterly publication compiles articles to advance domestic and international conversations around diversity, inclusion, and equity in global education with respect to the thematic focus identified each quarter.     For those interested in contributing to the publication, the first step is to submit an article proposal of approximately 100-200 words and include the title, brief synopsis of the article, and the author(s). Citations should follow the style guidelines of APA 6th. References should be noted in the body (author, date) and listed as a reference at the end (please refrain from using footnotes). If accepted for consideration, additional instructions for submitting the full article for review by the Editorial Advisory Board will be provided. NOTE: article proposal form functionality is optimal when using Chrome or Safari browsers.
