DEI Professionals in International Education Working Group

Call for Applications/Nominations

Diversity Abroad believes in the power of global education and exchange and is committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the field. As such, we are convening a DEI Professionals in International Education Working Group*.

We are seeking 6-12 international education and diversity/equity professionals with experience related to DEI as a professional role to join the working group. The group will work together for approximately 12 months to explore this topic in-depth, develop a proposal for Diversity Abroad’s work in this area, and begin creating tools and resources that support DEI Professionals for the Diversity Abroad Community.

The roles in international education offices and organizations that have diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) as a core function of the position have increased significantly reflecting a significant shift in prioritizing DEI. The roles themselves vary widely with some focusing internally on hiring, training, and sense of belonging in the workplace while others may focus on student services, advising, recruitment, and other work streams. These roles have the potential to contribute to efforts to make international education and programming more accessible to a broader demographic of students.

We are looking for professionals who are committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in international education and exchange, and have experience in the following areas:

  • Diversity, equity, and inclusion in international education and exchange programs
  • DEI implementation promising practices
  • DEI competencies in international education and exchange

Nominations for the DEI Professionals in International Education Working Group are now closed.

*Note: The Working Group is a one-year project separate from the Community of Practice titled International Education DEI Professionals. The Working Group will provide specific recommendations to Diversity Abroad based on their discussions and research. The Community of Practice is oriented toward cultivating community among practitioners and developing resources focused on the topic. The two groups are distinct and part of Diversity Abroad's broader efforts to maintain resources on contemporary issues facing the international education and global learning community.

Nominations are closed. We look forward to providing updates from the working group in 2024.
